a weekend in pictures : 07/28/04

Mike's parents were up this weekend. It was supposed to be a big Buddhist holiday, but apparently they were given the date in a lunar calendar, and thought it was the solar calendar, so they missed the big weekend. But, we traveled tot he temple of the 10,000 Buddhas anyway, traveling a few hours north of SF.

We brought 'Q' with us. Here is her and Mike in front of the temple.

And, they did have 10,000 statues of Buddha. Most were small but there were a lot of them.

Having made our pilgrimage, we ate in the restaurant. Since this was a Buddhist temple, they only served vegetarian dishes. I liked the 'jade roll' myself, but everyone else seemed to like the sweet and sour tofu. 'Tastes just like chicken!' they claimed, but to me it tasted like something trying to taste like chicken.

Anyway, apparently peacocks are a big thing on the temple grounds. Something about serenity and peace. So, I chased a couple around.

On Sunday, we went on a walking tour of SF. We hit the arboretum, but I couldn't feed any squirrels, as EVERYONE there were doing it. Some lazy guy was actually sitting on a bench and (I kid you not) simply shaking a bag of nuts, trying to get them to come.

We took a moment to take a picture of Mike and his parents. His parents were having fun, but Mike was too cool for any of that.

We then went to the conservatory of flowers, where Mike and his Mom took refuge from the coming storm under the shielding leaves of a banana tree.

After I explained that, since we were inside, the rain wouldn't get us we moved on. Eventually Mike found a wishing well, and tossed in 25 cents. Then, noticing I was still there, contemplated the waters and tried to get his 25 cents back. (See his wish was that I go away. Since I didn't he wanted a refund. No - yes. It is TOO funny.)

Henry - I didn't realize there is a squirrel-feeding protocol. I guess the bag shaking guy wasn't following it :)

Young_Asian

I like the white peacock, it just looked pure and proud. :)

Lil Bro (LB), Big H doesn't like it when anyone touchs his expensive, overly complicated camera.

Well, I'd have gone camping except for one reason....THOSE BLOODY DEMOCRATS!!!!! Well, in yet another attempt to ruin my life, The Democrats planned thier little shindig right into my camping plans. The water, the sun, the family, the food, the beer and maybe ever a bear YA/!!!! NO, I get my vacation cancelled so the Greater Boston area can be choked against our will so a million no ones from no where can show up and nominate a guy I don't even like. an act of democracy we didn't even get to decide whether we wanted it or not! YAY!!!!!!!

something\rquote s missing : 07/16/04

As you know, we on the \lquote left\rquote coast are all about the environment. We actually get 2 hour lunches (mandated by law), so we have 1 hour to eat, and another to hug trees (or, in my case, squirrels).

So, it comes as no surprise that they are always on the look out to help the environment, which has led them to install flushless urinals in the men\rquote s bathrooms.

I hate them.

Yes, each one save about 45,000 gallons of water a year, but (as the name indicates) there is no flushing. None. You just pee and leave.

Flushing, to me, is like the hand shake that seals the deal. It\rquote s part of the ritual. It lets people know you\rquote re a responsible person who cleans up after yourself.

So, I\rquote ve taken to making a flushing \lquote noise\rquote when I have finished, so others know that I would flush, if I could, but that I obviously can\rquote t.

I\rquote ve gotten some odd looks, but who cares. It\rquote s the principal that matters,

lil brother

Well stated big brother, I stand next to your belief. How can one pee at a urinal and not flush, it's UNAMERICAN! So, go on making the flush noise, and I'll save money to get a laywer and get you outta the funny farm when the time comes.

When we've unpacked it :)

We haven't disappeared, we just can't seem to get past the boxes in our hallway. We've survived by having the take-out people pass us our food through the window. :)

gaby

hey, when do we get to see the new place? Did you guys celebrate mike's b-day WITHOUT US?????? The outrage!!!!! You guys got a lottalotta explaining to do for your mysterious disappearance....

wasting time with bunnies : 07/09/04

My friend (and some-time nemesis) Ed points me to AngryAlien.com which sums up popular movies in 30 seconds.

With Bunnies.

Check out The Exorcist. They also have Aliens, The Shining, and the Titanic.

BWAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAH!!!!

that is WAY too funny..

catching up : 07/06/04

In the craziness of moving, I forgot to mention that Mike\rquote s Birthday was last week. (The 1st). So,:
Chuc Mung Sinh Nhat!

Other than that, we\rquote re almost all unpacked. We\rquote ve set up the new bed and have the \lquote old\rquote dennis-smelling bed in the guest bedroom, for any visitors who happen to, well, visit.

Birds are okay \endash I know you\rquote re all concerned. The 2 \lquote tiels\rquote are in their new home. Basil now follows us around the apartment whenever we\rquote re home, doing the important job of protecting us from remote controls.

I\rquote m not sure he means it as some sort of anti-TV statement, but if he gets at all close to a remote, Whether we\rquote re holding it, or it\rquote s just sitting helpless on the table, he snaps out, viper like, and bites it (hey, there\rquote s a game in there somewhere).

Anyway, We\rquote re looking into therapy.

Our computers are now set-up and, since we re-signed with SBC, this time under Mike, we were able to get a wireless network modem. So, the 2 computers are wireless now. Basically the same, but now we don\rquote t have the mass of wires heading from the phone jack (in one room) to the computer (in another room).

Yea, I know. That\rquote s why it\rquote s called \lquote wireless\rquote .

We went to Clement street last night, to buy vegetables for the week. Mike wanted to make tamarind soup, but we couldn\rquote t remember if he had any tamarind left. I told him to buy one anyway, just in case. He said he didn\rquote t want to buy one, if we already had some at home, because then we would have two. It costs about a dollar.

We\rquote re looking into therapy.
