a weekend in pictures : 07/28/04
Mike's parents were up this weekend. It was supposed to be a big Buddhist holiday, but apparently they were given the date in a lunar calendar, and thought it was the solar calendar, so they missed the big weekend. But, we traveled tot he temple of the 10,000 Buddhas anyway, traveling a few hours north of SF.
We brought 'Q' with us. Here is her and Mike in front of the temple.

And, they did have 10,000 statues of Buddha. Most were small but there were a lot of them.

Having made our pilgrimage, we ate in the restaurant. Since this was a Buddhist temple, they only served vegetarian dishes. I liked the 'jade roll' myself, but everyone else seemed to like the sweet and sour tofu. 'Tastes just like chicken!' they claimed, but to me it tasted like something trying to taste like chicken.
Anyway, apparently peacocks are a big thing on the temple grounds. Something about serenity and peace. So, I chased a couple around.

On Sunday, we went on a walking tour of SF. We hit the arboretum, but I couldn't feed any squirrels, as EVERYONE there were doing it. Some lazy guy was actually sitting on a bench and (I kid you not) simply shaking a bag of nuts, trying to get them to come.
We took a moment to take a picture of Mike and his parents. His parents were having fun, but Mike was too cool for any of that.

We then went to the conservatory of flowers, where Mike and his Mom took refuge from the coming storm under the shielding leaves of a banana tree.

After I explained that, since we were inside, the rain wouldn't get us we moved on. Eventually Mike found a wishing well, and tossed in 25 cents. Then, noticing I was still there, contemplated the waters and tried to get his 25 cents back. (See his wish was that I go away. Since I didn't he wanted a refund. No - yes. It is TOO funny.)

I like the white peacock, it just looked pure and proud. :)
Lil Bro (LB), Big H doesn't like it when anyone touchs his expensive, overly complicated camera.
Well, the pictures look great. Thought for some reason henry isn't in any....hmmmmmmmm?
All Henry... All the time.
Henry - I didn't realize there is a squirrel-feeding protocol. I guess the bag shaking guy wasn't following it :)
