Taking Aim

I know this is technically about the marketing practices of gun manufacturers, and I'm sure that they could care less who gets a gun (criminals included) as long as they get their money.

That said, this trend of going after companies which provide items which people then use to harm themselves or others is systematic of the whole lack of individual responsibility problem which is rampant in our country.

I support gun control laws, especially for semi-automatics. I support licensing all guns. I support significant penalties for people who are found in illegal possession of guns. I do not support going after Smith and Wesson (or whomever) because one of their guns killed someone. Go after the person who shot the gun. Go after congress to enact laws about guns and gun use. Right now, we have companies being sued for selling legal items in a legal manner. That's foolishness.

And, since I'm on a rant, lets extend it to other companies as well. I know the Tobacco industry lied and hid facts, and for that I think that they should be punished - and I encourage anyone who started smoking before 1970, when stronger warnings were placed on the packages, and got sick to sue. You were lied to and manipulated and hopefully can put them out of business. However, anyone after that, especially anyone who started after 1990 knew the risks they were taking. There's no way the can't.

If people want to make cigarettes illegal - fine. I'm all for it. However, until the time comes (never) that that occurs - if you smoke. It's your choice. If you get sick - it's your choice and your responsibility.
