America in Decline?

Is America in the process of decline? This Boston Globe article explores the rising belief that America has become decadent and is in decline.

Of course, people have been saying that for years - I'm not going to hold my breath for it to come true. People often point to the Roman Empire as a predictor of where America will end up someday - and it's certainly possible in 75-100 years, we could decline out of existence.

Of course, the Roman Empire was really built on conquest, and the sheer size of the US isn't really going to disappear - nor do I anticipate that it's economic status will change significantly. We have a lot of natural resources, as a nation, even if you don't count in our technology and other advances.

Certainly, our role as a 'superpower' may wax and wane some, though I don't really see an immediate sense of decline within our borders.

But what do I know?
