DeLay-ing

The act of feigning outrage today for the same thing you did a few years ago.

U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi "are getting very, very close to treason," DeLay said in a meeting with the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

"We have people dying," he said. "Not just our soldiers, but innocent citizens dying in Iraq and Afghanistan at the hands of these evil people, and you have your elected leaders making these kinds of statements that embolden the enemy. It's unbelievable."

GOP Family Values

GOP Presidential Candidate Huckabee said:

absent a power of attorney, the lesbian partner of a childbearing woman should not automatically have equal parental rights. "It's a step toward changing the definition of marriage and family," he said, which he said he opposes.

He didn’t say he favored preventing Lesbian couples from having children. So, one would assume, he is against a lesbian partner having to pay child support for a child.

And, should the partner with parental rights die, you would have to assume He supported taking the child from the surviving parent, and putting them into foster care.

And that, should the child be hurt while with the lesbian partner, that the hospital shouldn’t allow her to have a say in how the child should be treated.

Nor, should the partner die, would he support the child inheriting from her.

Nor, should the partner be working with the other stays home with the child, that the child be protected by health insurance.

Nor...

Those words, written by a student for a student newspaper, has resulted in the paper’s advisor being suspended, and recommended for firing.

Other stories in the paper included one on teen pregnancy and one advocating safe sex practices over abstinence education.

Nitpicking

I’ll take a shot at an answer:

You have a constitutional right to marry. You don’t have a constitutional right to be employed.

The Supreme Court has held marriage to be a fundamental right. Therefore, it is protected by the equal protection clause:

All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws

Therefore, if you believe that gays should be able to marry, it is an issue of equal protection AKA Equality.

You don’t have a constitutional right to be employed. And, since gays are not a protected class, it’s not an equality/equal protection issue. It’s merely an issue of fairness.

Dad hopes Lesbian book leads to $$

Dad says his 2 boys (16 and 14) while looking for information on military academies, came across ‘The Whole Lesbian Sex Book’. He’s calling it pornography and wants 10K per son, or 5K per wide eye.

Dad says, after the find, there were many sleepless nights in the house. I’m sure.

Why do I get feeling that the kids did not, exactly, stumble upon the book? I seem to recall from my youth, others, not myself, whiling away the time in the library, trying to find the ones with pictures. Of course, I’m a sexual deviant, while I’m sure these kids have never had an impure thought in their hormone-free lives.

Wow

When Blades of Glory first appeared, I wondered how much of it would be offensive.

With Chuck and Larry, I wonder if any of it won’t be offensive.

The whole ‘pretending to be gay’ thing has been done before. This time we have Kevin James and Adam Sandler as two firefighters from New York who have to enter a Domestic Partnership in order to assure their pensions go to their kids. (The trailer doesn’t explain why this is and I can’t, for the life of me imagine what legal protections would be in place that is stronger under a DP law – but it’s probably not important).

You can get a tone of the movie when you see the ‘ceremony’, featuring a freakishly gay rabbi marrying them. He says you may now kiss the husband and, when Kevin James leans in, Adam Sandler slaps him.

After someone suggests their DP is not real, they get a lawyer who is – of course – amazingly attractive and who Sandler falls for. When she tells them the investigation should be easy, because they’re a real Domestic Partnership, Kevin James says “Oh yea, I’m a big fruit”.

On the other hand, I'm oddly excited for Evan Almighty.

Bush

Thinks Alberto did just fine yesterday. Just fine.

MS. PERINO: Not that I'm aware of, no. One of the things that the President did upon returning from his trip yesterday was spoke to the Attorney General, following his hours of testimony. The President was pleased that the hearing had finally been held; that the Attorney General was fully responsive to the Congress, answered hours worth of questions after providing thousands of pages of documents, and again proving that there was no credible allegation of wrongdoing. The Attorney General did apologize for the way it was handled, said it could have been handled better, and the President agrees with that. But the Attorney General continues to have the President's full confidence.

Q Was the President disappointed in the testimony?

MS. PERINO: Is the President? No.

I bet Bush ‘couldn’t recall’ a better hearing. Get it? ‘Couldn’t recall’. Because Gonzales answered almost all of the questions that way?

Yea, well what do you want on Friday afternoon?
