Christian Love
I'm not sure which is more disappointing. :For a Christian Charity to come up with the idea of placing muslim orphans in Christian homes so they can be raised as Christians, or the fact that they stopped fund raising for these kids after the government told them they couldn't try to convert the orphans.
"Once we became aware that the government had refused to let these children be placed in a Christian home, we immediately stopped all fundraising efforts for the remaining 250 Indonesian orphaned children and appeals were removed from our website," the e-mail said.
Lest it be said that 'converting' the kids was never on their minds, here are some selected items from the website.
Normally, Banda Aceh is closed to foreigners and closed to the gospel. But, because of this catastrophe, our partners there are earning the right to be heard and providing entrance for the gospel.
Our partners tell us,"We do not want to just distribute help and leave. We are committed to bring help and hope to these children. We want them to know that Jesus loves them and plant Christian principles as early as possible in their age. To accomplish this means long-term commitment."
These children are homeless, destitute, traumatized, orphaned, with nowhere to go, nowhere to sleep and nothing to eat. If we can place them in a Christian children's home, their faith in Christ could become the foothold to reach the Aceh people
This illustrates my concern with faith based charities in general, the help always seems to have strings attached.
(I wonder if the 'charity' plans to give back the money it raised, since it isn't spending it on the kids it raised it for).
