Yea, yea. The Catholic Church may ban gay men from the priesthood, in stark contrast to the ‘hate the sin, love the sinner’ doctrine. Also, clearly meant as a straw man blame for the molestation scandal.

Still, I can’t get too upset about this. Yes, it’s bad. Yes, it’s horrible that the church would do this. Still, homosexuality is a sin in the CC, and if they want to turn their backs on gay men, so be it.

My advice to gay men who wish to be priests – find a more open denomination. They exist and, short of hiding you away, will be pleased to have you.

The CC will catch up – they are historically about 200 years behind modern times, and are still working on the whole ‘women’s rights’ issue, so a progressive stance towards gays is probably a bit much to ask from them.
