Gay Marriage Solution?

I think this is a great idea, but it will never fly in the US, which is too bad.

Government sanction marriage should be abolished, a Christian think tank recommended on the weekend, and be replaced by civil partnerships.

The report said that its plan would take the emotional issue of religion out of the issue of marriage and the variety of forms relationships take in today's world.

It’s an easy fix to the ‘marriage’ issue. Churches can marry you, the government grants you a civil partnership. A church marriage would automatically get you a CP, but would not be required for it. Gay marriage? That would be purely a church issue.
