Ironic

The GOP introduces the flag desecration act, and Bush signs his name on the American Flag.

Apparently, it’s only desecration if you criticize the government while doing it. Would the GOP support me writing ‘Gay rights are basic rights’ on a flag? I’m guessing not…

Won't matter to those who follow right-wing illogic though. I posted that picture on my blog a couple of years ago and was informed that it was ok because it was a "toy flag." When I inquired as to what qualified a flag as a toy (the size? the material? etc.) I was simply told it was a toy because it was a toy.

It’s an interesting question, and a problem with the law which will cause litigation. What constitutes a flag. Can I paint a flag, then burn it in protest? Can a burn a collection of those ‘toy’ flags?

The amendment suggested is deceptively simple:

The Congress shall have power to prohibit the physical desecration of the flag of the United States.

There will be lots of question as to what constitutes physical desecration and what is a flag.
