Mixed Blessing

Obviously, I’m disappointed for the folks in NY with the recent marriage decision. Especially since NY is considered a liberal state. Still, from a tactical standpoint, it may not be the worst news possible.

If the outcome had been different, it would have prompted another Constitutional Amendment debate, with a greater likelihood of passing.

As much as I think the courts are a reasonable place for people to turn, I believe strategically, that we need to hold the status quo for a little bit. Time is on our side, but if an amendment passes, we take a huge step back.

Still, the fact that the NY court seemed to accept the 'we need to protect children from the gays is troubling.
