Surprised?

Congress is setting aside 750 million for grants/programs to promote marriage and better fathers.

How many of the applicants do think will have the word ‘ministries’ in it?

GOP: Protecting Families

By being sensitive to those who commit divorce, adultery, and child abuse.

Nope. The only threat to marriage and family is ‘the gays’. Once that is dealt with, it’s all easy...

Missed that day in civics

Rep. Steve King (R – Iowa) just said that we don’t have three equal and seperate powers of government, rather that the courts fall under congressional control – including the Supreme Court.

Update: As promised, here's the actual quote and link to the record.

And any Member who votes against this legislation may have their opinions, as Mr. Watt does, that they are either knowingly or inadvertently or perhaps even willfully conceding some power and authority this Congress has to control the courts.

In the end, it is the Congress that controls the courts. It is not three separate but equal branches. In the end, the congressional structure is set up for the Congress to determine the final authority over the judicial branch of government through the pursestrings. For all of our judicial courts and all of our appellate courts, everything is a creature of Congress, except the Supreme Court, which is also a creature of Congress, but established by the directive and the mandate of the Constitution.

Here’s the link to the record.

I've no doubt that he said it, I was just curious if you could provide the exact quote just to satisfy my curiosity.

The Constitution is just an inconvience to much of the modern GOP.

Henry said (at July 19, 2006 11:47 AM):

I was watching it on C-Span, but it should be in the record published tomorrow. I'll post it when it's put up.

Gays: Is there anything they can’t do?

Apparently, we’re to blame for the Hezbollah attacks on Israel, and general violence in the region.

You can’t make this crap up.

Snow Job

Tony snow keeps pointing out how Bush has spent more money on Stem Cells than any other president in history.

Nice line, but there’s obviously an asterisk to that statement. The first stem cell line for research wasn’t created until 1997. Up until that point, there wasn’t a significant amount of research into Stem cells, nor was there a big need for funding.

It would be like claiming that Bush has spent more money on Homeland Security than any other president. Well, yea, because it didn’t exist before Bush took office.

A moment of Silence

For Ralph Reed, who lost his bid for Lt. Governor. He apparently forgot the biblical adage: Live by the Abramoff, die by the Abramoff.

Here’s hoping he will climb back under a rock, and remain hidden for the rest of his non-political life.

Busy House

Yesterday it was gay marriage. Today it’s stripping the federal courts from hearing any case involving the pledge of allegiance.

I’m waiting for the ‘School children must wear brown armbands’ debate...

I can’t imagine

With all that’s going on in Lebanon, someone in this administration could only think about charging people for rescue.

Just FYI

Tony Snow just said Bush considers Stem Cell research murder. Since IVF also involves the destruction of embryos, it stands to reason he thinks families who utilize the process must be murderers.

Update:

Q Can you remind us why the President believes that it is not appropriate to use -- that it is more appropriate for stem cells to be thrown away than to be used, in this case, for medical research?

MR. SNOW: The President -- I don't think that's the choice that the President has presented. What the President has said is that he doesn't want human life destroyed. Now, you may consider that insignificant, but the President has said -- and you have had in a number of cases the Snowflake babies, where some of those fetuses have, in fact, been brought to term and have become human beings. The President believes strongly that for the purpose of research it's inappropriate for the federal government to finance something that many people consider murder; he's one of them.

GOP: Protecting Family

By wasting time.

Luckily for us, there’s nothing more important in the House of Representatives than the debate on gay marriage, especially since it can not actually accomplish anything.

That Voodoo economics that they do

Conservatives are flush with news that Bush’s tax cuts have actually raised revenue, providing a rationale for their existence.

Of course, it’s all smoke and mirrors, but who’s counting.

The Least Offensive

I suppose we should be happy the napkin wasn't tucked into his shirt.

You know what I found far more disturbing than Bush’s expletive. His whole demeanor and posture when talking to Blair

Listen to some of his conversation before the ‘S’ word, and watch his demeanor during the discussion. He says to Putin: ‘Russia’s Big. And so Is China.’ When Tony Blair approaches, he calls him simply ‘Blair’. Then, as Tony Blair lays out his views on Israel/ Lebanon, Bush sits there (slouching), stuffing bread and butter into his mouth. He couldn’t even be bothered to turn and face the man he was having a conversation with until he (Bush) had something to say. Which boiled down to 'Someone should tell them to knock the shit off'.

The fact that Bush swears is not news. The fact that the President deals with other world leaders like he was still president of a fraternity is.
