The house didn’t act on Foley, for fear of being labeled ‘Gay Bashers’.

This is almost Machiavellian. It gives a reason for their lack of response, it hints at sensitivity to gays, and at the same time, links gays with having underage sex. I guess, according to Newt, if the page had been a 16 year old girl, there would have been an immediate response.

Of course, at the same time, it prevents them from using the ‘we didn’t think it was that serious’ excuse, which really wasn’t working anyway.
