McCain: Gay marriage should be allowed just not legal.

Well, I’m glad to know he doesn’t favor having the police bust into churches to disrupt weddings. Of course, I need to (mis) quoate Dan Savage here:

Gays getting married without licenses is like a bunch of dumb people giving each other diplomas. It doesn’t make them smart, and it doesn’t make us married.

The only good thing is that this is exactly the middle of the road answer which does nothing but harm McCain. Gays will see through it as the meaningless drivel it is, and the far right will be outraged that McCain thinks it’s okay for gays to ‘pretend’ to be married.
