New Jersey Gay Marriage Holding
As important as gay marriage is, I think the NJ Supreme Court struck the right balance.
Honestly, I was concerned that if they had required marriage in name, it would have impacted the election in November. As it stands, the couples get the benefits, but the state gets to decide what to call it.
Not perfect, but good enough.

I agree. The word is not that important to me, it's the rights. While a "civil union" under the court decision (if that's the way the legislature chooses to go) will stink of "seperate but equal" it will be the first time that there has been a seperate "civil union" status that actually IS equal to marriage.
As you said, not perfect, but good enough.

I feel I should add the words "for now." to my final sentence.
