ACLU

The religious right will point to this agreement, and chastise the ACLU for getting 180K in legal fees for fighting for the right of a GSA high school group to meet in Georgia.

They will, of course, fail to criticize the school board / Principal for fighting forcing this to court, by banning all non-academic clubs, rather than just allowing the group to meet.

As an aside, this is the group Kerry Pacer worked so hard to establish.

God blessYou’re dismal ye merry gentlemen...

Traditional Values

Once again involves lying:

"U.S. Taxpayer Census," the envelope says on the outside in big letters. "Do Not Tamper: Reply Within 5 Days."

...

"This Census is individually registered under your name to represent Napa public opinion in California 01 voting district. So it is critical you return it -- even if you are undecided about some answers."

In reality, the "Census" is a mailer from something called the Christian Seniors Association. And of the nine questions it asks, six involve a slanted look at Social Security and three involve donating money to the right-wing organization.

... any funds contributed to the Christian Seniors Association will in fact go to its parent group, the Traditional Values Coalition.

Good News

It’s unclear if the Happy feet movie will result in new backlash against Gay Penguins

Gay Penguins have apparently, been moved down the list of threats facing our nation.

In an related story, Mitt Romney has stated that he has always been against Gay Penguins, despite approving funding for the New England Aquarium.

Dingbat, they name is Goode

It’s bad enough that he said this amazingly stupid thing. But, making it far worse is that fact that:

  1. This was a carefully crafted letter not some spur of the moment statement.
  2. Even after learning how stupid the letter is (IE, Ellison is not an immigrant), he still refuses to apologize

People accuse me of being chicken little, when I point out there are those in power actively working to make America a theocracy. Well, it’s true.

(As an aside, Ellison has handled this whole affair with decorum and grace.)

Getting a Grip

The three hikers missing on Mt. Hood are a tragedy. Still, for the past week, that seems to be all CNN has focused on. Everytime I turned CNN on, they were live at Mt. Hood.

Why is this national news for over a week?

Interesting

Cheney apparently is going to be called as a defense witness in the Libby case.

Let the lawsuits begin! (I’m guessing they’ll claim privilege to avoid appearing).

Still not Safe

Another gay couple bashed – for having the gall to hold hands in public.

The nerve.

Brownback

Still obsession about a judge attending a gay wedding of a friend. Again, the judge didn’t do so as a judge, nor did she issue a marriage license. No, she just had the nerve to attend what was – nomenclature aside- a commitment ceremony for a friend. While she was a judge. The Nerve.

It’s amazing how many GOP presidential nominees think the course to the White House is by bashing all things gays. But, the GOP is a big tent part, with room for all. Uh-huh.
