Oh what a Tangled Web

I have no idea what to make of this.

We were initially told it was a beating. Now, the medical examiner tells us it wasn’t. So, what’s the deal? Right now, I’m skeptical of both. Now, only knowing what I read in the news, here are some problems:

  • The police are saying they can’t find a witness to the beating, but the beating allegedly occurred while he was helping someone off the bus. Does this mean he wasn’t helping someone? Or do the police just not believe that witness?
  • The ME is saying that, rather than an attack, Anthos fell because of an arthritic neck. Now, while I could imagine how an arthritic neck might contribute to a fall, how does it cause a fall (not the same thing)?
  • At least some of the attack claim came from Anthos himself. Why would he make something up?

Curious.

Oh, and to answer Michael's question: I don't think we jumped the gun. When a 65 year old says he was attacked because he was gay and, apparently, there was a witness - it's reasonable to believe the story.

Sure, he wouldn’t be the first to make-up such a claim (if it is indeed made up), but nor would he be the first person to be disbelieved even though it occurred.

Update:

The AP Story answers some of these questions.
