Gay Adoptions
Are closer to becoming reality in Colorado. And the usual bunch of idiots is up in arms.
Did you know at least one state has refused to recognize adoptions done out of state, if the couple was same-sex? The Oklahoma statute was overturned by a District Court, but was appealed to the 10th circuit. The future of this OK statute is uncertain, but it means if both parents adopted the child (not unusual) in CA, then moved to OK, the state could theoretically take the kids away from the parents for no reason.
And, while FF&C has generally been given to such judgments (and, is compelled by the Parental Kidnapping Prevention Act), the Defense of Marriage act is worded in such a way that it could give these states permission to ignore any adoption they felt was against the states ‘public policy’.
But, it’s all about marriage.
