Libby

I’m not really surprised at the decision to commute the sentence. Nobody really expected Libby would have served more than a few days, if at all. Hoped maybe, but didn’t expect. Further, I can’t even say I’m ‘disappointed’. This administration has raise (lowered?) my ‘disappointment’ bar, where this hardly registers.

Besides, his polling numbers are to the point where only the ‘Bush walks on water’ crowd is supportive, and they wanted the pardon anyway.

In many ways, politically speaking, this is smart. Assuming, as I do, that there is more to this than we know. Since, technically, the appeals process is still going and there was no ‘pardon’, Bush and Co can still avoid having to comment on it.

Then, he can Pardon him just as Bush is poised to leave office.

I have to laugh, though, when Bush claims that – even with the commuted sentence, the penalty is ‘Harsh’ for Libby.
