One Year

It’s hard to believe, but in a few weeks my daughter will be one. My partner and I started talking about having kids almost seven years ago. We actively started working to have kids in 2003. It took us three years to get there. Three years of financial hardship, disappointment, and heart ache.

At times, it seemed like we would never have a child.

Now, the first year has just about flown by. The small bundle we brought home, who slept all the time has blossomed into this amazing person who loves hugs so much, she kicks her feet in joy when she gives them.

Everyone knows having kids changes your life. I knew it would – but the change is more fundamental and widespread than I ever imagined.

If you’ve never been excited because, for the first time, your daughter offered you a drool soaked cheerio, it’s hard to explain. My only fear is that the next 18 years will go by as quickly as the first one went by.
