Joe Sixpack

Think what you might about the media treatment given ‘Joe the Plumber’, the reality is if he hadn’t lied about who he was in order to make the question he asked seem personal to him, the media would have quickly moved on.

The fact is, he lied about a lot of things. The media found out and made it a story.

This does not mean I think that anyone who asks a question is fair game to be scoured by the media. I do think, however, if you lie for effect and try to generate a ‘gotcha’ against a candidate you don’t agree with – well, then, you become fair game.

This isn’t about the media tar and feathering an ‘average joe’ who asked a question. It’s about a person lying in a question, and the media finding out.

I find it funny how the McCain campaign and the corporate noise machine kept acting like a rich guy such as "Joe the Plumber" somehow speaks for average Americans.
