Scene: Vals Apartment
Present: Emma, Val, Elanora (Joined briefly by Trent and Jeremy)
Emma looks to the Corax now, eyes fringing well past impatient.
Tu only gives the Corax a moment to recover, not having any idea what sort of drain the whole process is. "Did you see anything? Do you know what killed her?"
"I hate drinking from the left eye," the small woman half mutters, half complains. "Yes, I got a decent view of what happened." Crouching down, Val places the corpse' hands across her chest and with a final word of thanks, closes the remaining. "From the looks of it, she went down fighting, if that gives you any comfort. I'd guess that you are dealing with a Fomor, or a corrupted bug spirit. It looked like a giant bug, a beetle, or some sort of cockroach. The only thing I got a decent look at was its face and even that, was only for the briefest of seconds. He had something white covering its face and its mandibles, well, they were just full of things. Needles, that I think, dripped stuff that made the burns in the floor. Bits of glass and other sharp things, that almost looked like they were sparking electricity. May you rest peacefully," she murmurs to the corpse. "I have given witness to your life and I will remember this one piece of who you once were." Her words are almost ritualistic and clearly are not intended for the Garou in the room.
Emma blinks just once during the retelling of events, her fists clenched viciously at her sides. "So if there was this beetle thing, where the hell did it go?" She glances around the rather dilapidated building, "This whole building is probably filled with them then... that doesn't happen overnight."
The mention of a fomor actually seems to relieve the Walker somewhat, apparently better than what he was thinking. Or, at least, something he understands. "It materialize here for some reason, maybe something drew it." He lets out a breath of air. "Okay, that leaves us two tasks. I think we should get the body out to the woods, or at least to the safe house. Then, we need a few more people and we can take a peek into the shadow, see if it's still there."
"Unless it was a spirit," Val murmurs, while standing. "A powerful spirit. One fomor is almost never string enough to take one of you out on its own. The bug's jaws looked like they were sparking electricity, so it could be electrical in nature. If that is the case, it could have come in though any of the electrical outlets, which would explain the destroyed computer." Val closes her eyes and slowly stands, running events though her head one more time. "The antenna were to long for a beetle... It was so huge. It could have been a cockroach spirit, they normally spark to one extent or another."
Emma nods her head, "Alright. I can call Mitch," she says this blandly, "He'll help and he has a truck. Not that I know how to get a body out of here in broad daylight." Her hand runs through her hair once more and she glances to the fallen Garou with a heavy sigh. "She just moved in here recently right? Might be interesting to find out what kind of things were happening here before she moved in." At the Corax' addendum, she scowls, "Why would a Cockroach spirit attack one of its own? But- the electrical stuff in here is shot. How would a fomor explode a microwave?"
"It must be corrupted", the Walker points out to both of the women. "There's no other reason that a roach spirit would attack one of us. Still, the best way to find out is to lead some people into the shadow and see if the thing is still there." He scratches his forehead, and nods at Emma. "That sounds fine. We can get something to put the body in, or wait till dark." He starts for the body, preparing to move it.
"All spirits can be corrupted," Val states, rather flatly. "If you'll excuse me, I need some air." Val steps over to the window and opens it.
It's really impossible to tell just how stuffy and noxious the room is until the Corax opens the window--the minor breeze that drifts in is like the first breath stepping out of a tomb. Unfortunately, this also helps to remind your nostrils of the generally foul smell assaulting them.
From afar, to the room, Val has to go pick up the BF, so is going to pose a speedy exit. That okay?
From afar, to the room, Ren-Ferret nods. Fine by me. Thanks, Val!
You paged the room with 'Fine with me. Thx.'.
Emma sighs and looks around again, "Can I use your phone Tu? I don't have one." She watches him as he moves to his tribemate, then takes a step forward. "I don't think we should wait till dark, I just- just got a feeling it's best to move now."
Val steps back and away from the widow, to avoid that small chance that anyone from outside can see her. The woman becomes a bird and her wings easily carry her though the window and out of away from the building.
Tu pulls his phone, and tosses it towards Emma, then grabs hold of Elanora's body, and gently drags it towards the mattress in the room. He starts to arrange it there, folding the arms across he chest, and closing the eyelids. "Ask if he has something which could conceal the body", Tu suggests, assuming she's calling for transport.
The body is considerably stiff, and heavy, in spite of Elanora generally being a light weight. For all the damage to her neck, there's no blood trail left behind the dragging, as all of the blood is dried--there /is/ a faint tinkling, however, situated around the front pocket of her shirt.
Emma takes the phone and begins tapping a number in. "Yeah Mitch, business call here. We need your truck. Un-huh. And that thing I told you about, could happen. Did. Need help getting it sorted." She proceeds to give him some directions via vague personal experiences and then clips the phone shut. "Should be about ten minutes or so."
The tinkling catches Tu's attention. After seeing to the respectful placement of his tribesmate, he does a quick search of her pockets. "Okay. Do me a favor, lets due a top to bottom of the apartment, and grab anything which could be used to ID her."
The pocket search nets only what one might expect--in her shirt pocket, for instance, Tu finds the frame and shattered remnants of a pair of prescription glasses. The only other thing in her jeans pockets is a wallet, which bears an I.D. that has a picture of Elanora, but states her name as Jane Ricklin and gives a birth date that is about five years too old, a lighter, and a mostly empty pack of very cheap cigarettes.
Emma nods her head dutifully and immediately goes to the bathroom, fetching both the keys and the cell phone. Then she moves to the kitchen and begins going through drawers and cabinets.
Emma finds the sort of plastic kitchenware you might expect to pick up at the dollar store, and not a great deal of it. There's a lot of canned and boxed junk in one cabinet, the sort you'd expect to find in a college kid's dorm--Top Ramen, Macaroni and Cheese, that kind of thing. Most of the drawers and cabinets, however, are quite empty. One of them contains a rather small, six legged inhabitant that scurries away into the dark the moment Emma opens the door.
Tu slips the ID in his pocket, and then grabs something to cover up the body before he joins Emma in her search, piling anything of interest near the damaged computer.
Emma pages to the room: Mitch would show up and be a good little kin boy, bringing something to put the body in and what not.
Tu finds the missing CD tray--entirely by accident. He steps on the very corner of it as he joins Emma in the kitchen, causing the disjointed thing to flip up and smack the side of his shoe from where it was previously concealed by a piece of the ill fated microwave. If you ignore the fact that it should be in the computer, and that there's a piece of spring still stuck to one end, it's entirely intact, and shows no sign of burn marks or melting.
Ren-Ferret pages to the room: Kin boys are so handy that way.
You paged Jeremy with 'Want in on the Ela thing? I have a use for you now.'.
Jeremy pages: Sure. OK.
You paged the room with 'Did Emma give back my phone?'.
Emma pages to the room: Yeah she would have yes.
Emma eyes the other Garou as she looks around and waits for reinforcements to show up. "You want us to go straight to the bawn, or to the safehouse?"
Tu leaves the CD holder there for now, frowning at it curiously. With a practiced move, he flips the cell phone open, and quick dials someone. "Hey, it's Tu."
You paged Jeremy with 'You phone rings. :)'.
Jeremy pages: Picking up the phone, Jeremy's voice comes out. "Hey, what's up?"
Long distance to Jeremy: Tu speaks with a business tone, skipping any pleasantries. "Hey. Listen. I need you to come collect a computer system, and bring me a digital camera. It's Elanora's apartment. Do you know where that is?"
Jeremy pages: Uh huh. I know. I'll be there right away. Give me a few minutes.
"Hey. Listen. I need you to come collect a computer system, and bring me a digital camera. It's Elanora's apartment. Do you know where that is?" As he speaks, Tu wanders the apartment, looking for other things which seem out of place, like the CD holder. "Thanks", he says, and the phone is closed and put away.
"What are you looking for now?" Emma asks seriously.
Depending on how you look at it, the fact that there's so little actually in the apartment is both a good and a bad thing. Good, because it makes searching that much easier. Bad, because there isn't much else to find. A pair of sunglasses, likewise shattered, lie not far from the broken monitor. Apart from that, there's nothing beyond a few changes of clothes in, of all things, the drawers of the cheap computer desk.
"The CD holder seems like it was shot from the computer case. I'm trying to figure out of the things used the electronics as a means of attack, or if this was somehow just secondary to the attack." He shakes his head. "None of this seems to make sense. If she was attacked outright, I find it hard to believe that she would have simply sat at the computer and sent an email. Something seems off."
You paged the room with '/If/ the thing used...'.
From afar, to the room, Ren-Ferret got Tu's pose, nothing else. Gimme a sec to give you the set, Jeremy.
From afar, to the room, Jeremy is dragging Trent on to come with me. If thats OK?
Ren-Ferret pages to the room: Fine by me. Spam him what I just spammed you. ^.-
Jeremy pages to the room: OK :D
Emma grunts, "Weird. You think it revolves around that computer?"
Trent pages to Tu and Jeremy: Word.
Emma pages to the room: sorry, crap poses, work issues
"I don't know", Tu admits again. "I was hoping the Corax would shed some light on things, but it didn't. Though, who knows." He looks around the room, then suggests. "There seems to be three primary electronic devices destroyed. The Microwave, the cell phone, and the computer and monitor." He looks down to the burn marks. "If the thing came out of her computer, and did her in before she had a chance to fight it, then maybe it wasn't just a rogue spirit. Otherwise, why was she at the computer?"
My OOC attempt to figure out what happened as a little overboard, I think. I was trying to figure out if the destroyed equipment was a side effect of the attack, or actually /was/ the attack. Like the microwave exploding to hurt/kill Elanora.
Long distance to the room: Tu reminds he was a wits of 4. If I'm way off, give me a hint. :)
From afar, to the room, Ren-Ferret nods.
"You mean if she was sitting at the computer and the computer itself lead to the attack? That would," she pauses to look at the damage on the victim, "lend to matching the direction of damage. But the Corax said she put up a fight, and saw the bug thing."
Ren-Ferret pages: The CD tray is still where you found it, right?
Long distance to Ren-Ferret: Tu nods.
Ren-Ferret pages: You notice that it's in a direct line from the computer tower, and very close to, if not the toppled microwave, definitely the counter where the microwave was sitting, given the blast marks.
Tu nods. "Right. So, we're to assume, then, that either she realized she was doomed and tried to send an email for help, rather than keep fighting? I don't know, doesn't seem like the actions of someone in a fight with a spirit. It's not like help was right around the croner." He shrugs. "Maybe the email wasn't sent by her, but was just a side effect of the machine blowing up. Jeremy can probably track that down."
You paged Ren-Ferret with 'So the CD tray flew out and blew up the microwave? :)'.
Ren-Ferret pages: Well, it's not /that/ close. x.o The tray is near the bottom of the counter, where the microwave was likely sitting, but still a foot or so away from being a direct line to the microwave.
Jeremy pages to the room: brb
Ren-Ferret pages: The tray is also mostly intact, if you ignore the fact that it's...no longer a part of the computer.
Jeremy pages to the room: Sorry guys, I was taking a phone call.
Long distance to Ren-Ferret: Tu is dim. I get the layout, just not the import. I figure either the explosion was a side effect of the thing, or one of the things attacks.
Emma lets out a sigh and just shakes her head again, "Well, when you find out what did the damage, let me know, I want in on the task of taking care of it." She looks to the door then, and as if by magic, a soft knock comes. She moves to the door and after discerning it is her kin, lets him in. "Where do you want us to take her Tu?"
Ren-Ferret pages: Okay. The explosion definitely wasn't a side effect of where the CD tray is. Nor are the microwave and computer close enough to have been affected by the same explosion, if there was one. They are at opposite ends of the apartment.
Ren-Ferret pages: Possibly most telling, there's absolutely no sign of any sort of fire repellant device going off, and the apartment does have ceiling sprinklers. No water damage, no power, etc.
Ren-Ferret pages: Err. Powder. Not power.
Long distance to Ren-Ferret: Tu gets that :) I don't see 1 explosion. I think an electricity surge caused it all. Each item exploded individually.
Ren-Ferret pages: You're damn close then, so no worries. ^.-
Long distance to Ren-Ferret: Tu is trying to figure out if it was the things attack - IE causing things near El to explode - or just a side effect of the thing's electrical nature. Or, even, how the thing moves.
Tu is drawn from some deep thought he was pondering, and looks up at Emma, hardly aware the kin had arrived. "Farmhouse for now?", he asks, not overly sure. "We'll have to move it to the burial grounds from there."
Jeremy pages to the room: Trent is posing us in, sorry for being idle guys.
A black Explorer SUV quietly rolls up across the street. The doors open and close with quiet clicks and Jeremy and Trent arrive, quickly crossing the street. Trent is dressed more for a business meeting than an investigation, for once. He knocks brickly at the door, holding a large bag from Starbucks in one hand.
Ren-Ferret pages: There's no sign of a surge from any visible outlets. No blackening around the wall sockets, etc. The microwave cord is actually more intact the closer to the plug you get than to the microwave itself. There are a few small cuts on Elanora's arms and face, but nothing massive. The biggest damage is centered around her waist, two very large cuts there, but no blood, and burn scarring is especially bad around the waist as well, but also one one hand, and some on the face. Obviously there's also the torn throat, which is the only bloody wound. However, you don't see any hints of footsteps, or tracks, or anything that would show how or where the attacker was. Just all that burn marking on the carpet and desk.
Jeremy and Trent find the apartment mostly deserted--either most residents are off at work, or they are sleeping off a binge or late night trip. There's a low thrum in the building, the bass line of someone's stereo being cranked far too loud.
From afar, to the room, Ren-Ferret amends. Apartment /building/.
The kin does a fair job of remaining stoic through the stench and gruesome task at hand. Emma gives Tu a nod, and then works to help get the body concealed in as gentle a manner as possible. The kin having brought a large box with 'Christmas Tree, 12'x 5'' marked on it. They take care to make sure it will hold her, and keep from showing any signs of leaking or staining, then begin to carry it out. "Mitch's number is in your call log Tu, if you need to get a hold of us."
Emma pages to the room: Frigging brilliant. Using an old christmas tree box, no one will suspect at all!
Emma pages to the room: Hah.
You paged the room with 'Would have been better /without/ the tree still in it...'.
Trent pages to the room: Oh, I think she makes a nice ornament.
The only danger of leaking appears to be from Elanora's missing throat--but the box should be able to hold that. Most of what could have come out already has, and the body is stiff, already slightly hunched in a fetal position. It's not too much of a trick to get her into the box.
You paged the room with 'Trent and Jeremy arrive just in time to see them take the box out? :)'.
Emma pages to the room: I imagine so. :p
Trent pages to the room: As I pause to knock? Might give them a bit of a jolt. "WHAT? NOTHING! NO BODI-- oh, it's you."
Tu opens the door for the kin, with a word of thanks, and lets them carry the box out. "Okay, well, when Jeremy gets here, we'll take pictures and then leave, I guess. Come back later to check in the shadow:
Trent leads the pair up to the apartment following the directions given. He doesn't make a sound aside from his footsteps, all business at the moment. Just outside the doorway, he looks up to check the number and reaches out to knock.
You paged the room with 'That : should have been a "'.
Sliding in behind Trent, Jeremy peeks about and lets out a quiet breath, sniffing the air. He is carrying a back pack over his shoulder.
The two Get, one kin and one 'rou are in the process of carrying a large christmas tree box out. Emma give them each a brief nod as she works on walking the parcel out the door and down the steps. "See you guys around."
Emma pages to the room: Ill wait a round and slip out.
"Thanks again Emma", Tu says to the Get as she leaves, then turns his attention to Jeremy and Trent, who don't get much of a greeting. "I need pictures of everything. From different angles." His attention narrows to Jeremy. "When we're done, I need you to see how salvageable that machine is." He nods his head in the direction of a bloated computer tower, sitting underneath a desk with an exploded monitor. "Ideally, I'd like to know what the last things done on it were, and when they were done."
"You get the pictures T, I'll get the computer." Jeremy says as he slides out two pairs of white plastic glove from his bag, tossing one set to his cousin, then heads over to the machine
From afar, to the room, Jeremy adds a . at the end.
Trent catches the gloves one handed, as though with practice. "Coffee?" he asks, offering the Starbucks bag up to Tu. Glancing back over his shoulder, he turns to Tu and raises an eyebrow. "You wanted pictures without the body in place?"
Tu nods. "Body was at the computer. I want to figure out what happened before that. There was a fight of some sort, so I want blood splatters and the debris field."
You paged the room with 'Sorry. Cowworker asked me a question.'.
From afar, to the room, Trent laughs.
"I'll give you the whole package." Trent shrugs, and sets down the Starbucks bag and pulls his gloves on. Hanging his camera around his neck, he proceeds to get to work. "In fact, I'll have one of those 3D-walkthrough things put together. Like when you're looking at buying a house online? Except this place wouldn't get many customers the way it's currently decorated. I'll send you the notes from the meeting along with."
Emma pages to the room: Ok thanks guys!
Emma has left.
You paged Emma with 'Thanks.'.
Val has left.
"Thanks guys." He looks prepared to leave as well. "I'm going to the woods to deal with her body. I'll be back in a few hours."
You paged the room with 'Tu said that.'.
Disconnecting the machine, Jeremy glances around and asks. "Did anyone sniff for a scene?" He furrows his brows slightly as he starts to gather up cables.
Jeremy pages to the room: Er, scent*
Long distance to the room: Tu needs to flee as he is attracking people to his office like flies to a ...well, anyway.
Jeremy pages to the room: Erf. :/ Ok
You paged the room with 'Ren can let you know what you need. Sorry.'.
Jeremy pages to the room: Okie, sorry I'm so slow, just kinda cold in the house. Shivery.
Tu shakes his head. "No, no one sniffed for a scent. We're pretty sure it was a spirit that attacked - maybe a roach spirit. It had electrical properties." He gives the room a final glance over. "I'll be back at the safe house."
"Alright Tu, we'll take over from here." Jeremy murmurs quietly as he carefully twist ties the cables together, then starts settling things to the side.
You paged the room with 'Ren - Tu would make sure the body made it to the Caern - and is put wherever they keep such things. Thanks!'.
From afar, to the room, Ren-Ferret nods.
"Ok, boss," Trent nods inbetween pictures. "Hey shout for me if you see anything, Jer."
Ren-Ferret pages to the room: Thanks Tu!
